In 2006, in the area called the Old Cemetery, located to the south of the Tigris River, to the west of the Mardinike Complex, the period and style of the tombs found in this area were determined by the excavations carried out under the presidency of Prof. Dr. Abdüsselam ULUÇAM.

In different areas of the Old Cemetery, there are tombs with their original structures intact, as well as tombs whose stones have been lost. On the tombstones, there are inscriptions written in Ayyubid neshi and Ottoman thuluth, and ornamental motifs with herbal characters such as rumi, palmette, lotus and cypress.
