ÇUKURYURT VILLAGE OLD ASSYRIAN CEMETERY

The Old Syriac Cemetery is located in the west of Çukuryurt village, which is within the borders of Gercüş district of Batman province. The village is located 45km southeast of Batman center and 9km northeast of Gercüş district center.
The cemetery area, which is called "Tırbike Fallaha" by the local people, is in the west of the village and its borders are not clear. Most of the burial structures have been destroyed and there are no head and foot stones (Picture 1). There are no inscriptions or decorations on the existing tombstones (Picture 2). There are no burials in this area today.
