Watermill No. 1 is located in the village of Gönüllü, which is within the borders of Gercüş district of Batman province. Gönüllü village is located 42km southeast of Batman center and 12.80km northeast of Gercüş district center (Picture 1)..
The mill, which has an “L” plan feature, consists of a grinding area and a section for animals in the north of this place. The entrance of the grinding room is provided from the south façade and has a rectangular form with a wooden lintel (Picture 2). The grinding area has a rectangular plan. There are 2 window openings with stone lintels on the south wall of the space, a small window opening on the east wall, 3 small rectangular niches on the north wall, and a hearth niche on the south wall. There is a rectangular shaped grinding chamber to the east of the room. There is a grinding stone in this chamber (Picture 3).
The section for animals is located in the north of the grinding area. The entrance to this section is rectangular in shape with a stone lintel. The space has an irregular rectangular plan. The foundation walls of this place were made of bedrock, and the upper walls were built with irregular stones using the masonry technique (Picture 4). There are niches used as mangers in the space. The water tower is located just north of the mill. Water is carried to the tower by a 21.00m long, 0.45-0.50m wide gutter. The inside of the tower was plastered with cas (Picture 5). (Picture 6) The mill is made of concrete in the form of a barrel vault from the inside and a flat roof from the outside. Cut and rubble stone and cas mortar were used in its construction. There is natural and human destruction in the mill.
