The excavation of the complex, which consists of the Sultan Suleyman Mosque and the surrounding structures, located in the north-west of the area called the Central Excavation Site, in the middle of the Lower City, was carried out in 1985 by Prof. Dr. Oluş ARIK.

According to the inscription on the minaret base, these structures were built in 1407 by the Eyyubi Sultan Süleyman. The mausoleum of Sultan Suleiman, who died in 1432, is located at the eastern end of the complex, which consists of a mosque, madrasa, soup kitchen and tombs. The minaret, which is meticulously knitted and decorated with smooth cut stone, is in the position of a monumental façade with the crown door adjacent to it and the fountain to the south of it. In the inscription on the fountain, it is written that it was built by Sultan Süleyman in 1416.
