YAMANLAR VILLAGE CISTERNS

Yamanlar (Erdê) village, which is within the borders of Gercüş district of Batman province, is located 49 km southeast of Batman center and 7 km southeast of Gercüş district center. There are cisterns on the western and northern slopes of the castle, which is about 800 m southeast of Yamanlar village. A total of 7 cisterns were observed during the studies carried out in the area. Cisterns have lost their functions today and do not see any use. The cistern 1 is located on the western slope of the castle.

The diameter of the mouth of the cistern 1 is 1.00x1.00m and its depth is 3.00m. The interior of the cistern is filled with rubble stones (Picture 1).

Cistern 2 is located on the northern slope of the castle. The mouth diameter of the cistern 2 is 0.80x0.60m. There are small waterways around the cistern that carry rain water to the cistern. The cistern no. 2 expands inward from the mouth. The inner part of the cistern, which is 2.00 m deep, is filled with rubble stones (Picture 2).

Cisterns 3-7 were built adjacent to the main rock mass located approximately 70-80m north of the castle. In total, 5 cisterns were observed. The cisterns have an average diameter of 1.00 m; their depth is 1.00m-1.30m. It is said that it is also used as a grape workshop by the village people (Picture 3), (Picture 5).
